Uptown Main Street is an officially recognized DC Main Streets program, and a member of the National Main Street Center. UMS follows the 4-point approach and tailors these transformation strategies to support the revitalization of our corridor. 

ECONOMIC VITALITY

By making capital, incentives, and other economic and financial tools to assist new and existing businesses more accessible, UMS supports a thriving environment for entrepreneurs and innovators to invest in our historic commercial corridor.

DESIGN

Through our design guidelines, UMS promotes the historic preservation of the streetscape while supporting incremental change to the physical and visual assets that set our commercial district apart. This can include public art, streetscape improvements, plantings, sidewalk and patio repair as well as façade improvements.

ORGANIZATION

Main Street programs must be sustainable, financially-sound organizations with broad-based community support.  By focusing on partnerships, community involvement and strong relationships with stakeholders, UMS seeks to build strong roots in the community.

PROMOTION

Through promotions and events, UMS helps market our business corridor to our community as well as a wider audience.
